CROATIA PAPER NEGATIVES
One of the things Well Lit Photo Club enjoy most about shooting Paper Negatives is their unpredictability.
Paper Negative pinholes and portraits capture images on light sensitive paper rather than film, the various papers embrace natural imperfections that often have a dreamlike quality, these imperfections contributing to the overall character of the image. Each hand developed photo is a unique representation of a moment in time.
On a recent trip through Croatia Well Lit Photo Club decided to capture large format images on a variety of extremely old vintage photo papers. These photo papers are normally just too unpredictable to use, whether that is due to some of them being part exposed to light or covered in fingerprints or other grubby stains. Using these sheets with their unpredictable charcteristics would only add to the images of Croatia’s historic old towns.
Well Lit Photo Club already have a 4x5 pinhole camera but we decided to make our own field camera using spare Sinar pieces, a 150mm Sinar lens and a bag of eBay Lego using superglue and some hard drying putty.
It took 2 days to make.

Zadar was our first destination.
We adored the old town with its marbled floors, historic buildings and beautiful restaurants.

Skradin provided a welcome change of pace. It was a tranquil few days immersed in stunning landscapes.

Trogir and Šibenik in comparison were much busier, a hive of incredible ancient streets.
